Since 2018, April 30 is the day of Hungarian film. At such times, we remember the beginnings of our film history and celebrate the historical and contemporary richness of Hungarian film. On this occasion, Urania, in cooperation with the Film and Photography Department of MMA and the National Film Institute – Film Archive, will present a festive program on its online channel.

The genre-diverse program draws attention to the rarely seen historical and contemporary values ​​of Hungarian film, in the first half three short films that have now become classics will be screened, and then a new work related to the work of summoned masters will be screened for the first time in Hungary. . In the sequel, we can go back to the prehistory of film history to get a glimpse into the work of an early Hungarian film workshop. Before the screening, film aesthetist Gábor Gelencsér will give an introduction.

Portrait of a Man (short documentary, 1968, 9 minutes)

In this short film, one of the significant creators of the Hungarian new wave draws a lyrical portrait of his father, who works as a village district doctor.

Suicide (short film, 1967, 24 minutes)
Director: Ferenc Kósa, cinematographer: Sándor Sára, screenwriter: Sándor Csoóri, Ferenc Kósa
Recalling the story of József Attila, a nine-year-old miserable, loving and suicidal experimenter. Adaptation of József Attila’s short story.

János Tóth’s experimental film pays homage to the heroic age of cinema, the act of imaging and cinematography.

I saw (short film, 2019, 20 minutes) – Hungarian premiere

Free associational inner journey out there on the giant podium of the saline wilderness. The Walk and Vision of the Merely Regenerating Blind is the frame game of the film, but in reality the whole film is a drawing of the genius loci. The I saw. film poem was made in the wilderness of the district of Magyarkanizsa and before the art of Zoltán Huszárik and Sándor Sára Hommage.

People on Camera – The History of the Pioneers of Cinema and Cinematography in the South (Serbian-Hungarian educational film, 2016, 50 minutes)

The life and work of Sándor Lifka and Ernő Bosnyák, two Central European pioneers of film art, are connected to Bácska, namely Subotica and Sombor. They both gained timeless merits with the founding of the first traveling cinemas, stone movie theaters, the first film news, the first film magazine published in Hungarian and the distribution of films. The film also reveals that Lifka was associated with the Urania Science Theater in Budapest.

The films Male Image, Suicide and Cinema Image will be screened in a revamped version. The restoration of the films was made in the National Film Institute – Film Archive.
