Polish composer and orchestral conductor.

He was one of the major European composers of the 20th century

Egy időben mindenki a darmstadti iskolára esküdött. És ez még mind a mai napig hat. Közben észrevétlenül, csöndesen megalkotta nagyszerű zenéjét egy valódi Isten-rokon, Witold Lutoslawsky, meg is halt, alig emlékeztek meg róla. Tessék meghallgatni ezt a két világot. Hogy mi zeng a Három Micheux-poéma című Lutoslawsky-műből, vagy a zongoraversenyéből, vagy az énekhangra és zenekarra írt Paroles Tiséesből! Vagy gondoljunk Bartók Gyászzenéjére. Vagy hasonlóképpen, mi zeng a dzsesszben?
Es gab eine Zeit, als jedermann auf die Darmstadt Schule geschworen hat. Das wirkt noch bis heute nach. Inzwischen hat ein richtiger Gottverwandter, Witold Lutoslawski unbemerkt, still, seine wunderbare Musik geschaffen, und ist auch gestorben – seiner wurde kaum gedacht. Hören Sie bitte diese zwei Welten an! Was ertönt aus dem Werk von Lutoslawski mit dem Titel “Drei Gedichte von Henri Michaux”. Oder aus seinem Klavierkonzert, oder aus dem Werk „Paroles Tissées“ für Tenor und Orchester! Oder denken wir an die Trauermusik zu Ehre Bartóks.
There were times when everybody engaged himself to the Darmstadt school, and this has its effect even today. In the meantime, however, a real God-relation, Witold Lutslawsky, had created his great music in silence, without being noticed. He died and he was hardly remembered. Listen to these two worlds: what sounds arise from Lutoslawski’s work with the title Three Michaux poems, or from his piano concert, or from the Paroles Tissées for tenor and orchestra! Or let us mention the Funeral music to honour Bartók.
